opinion please for quilting

hallngardenJune 3, 2011

I normally hand quilt all of my quilts, but just finished one with granddaughter and want to try machine quilting. Found an article that describes machine quilting. You cut the batting in thirds and starting quilting in the middle third, have any of you tried this method. The article was quilted paradise newsletter. Wanted some advice from you quilters to see if you had tried this for machine quilting. Thanking you in advance.

How big is your quilt? This technique works well if you have a large bed-sized quilt, but isn't necessary really with a throw size.

It is a very feasible way of handling the larger quilts when working through your machine. But if you choose a simple quilting pattern like straight lines/diagonal lines going in both directions to create a grid, then it's not super necessary to reduce the bulk of the batting. I've done a king sized quilt with straight-line quilting without removing any of the batting first.
