A new search engine I found

jasdipMay 6, 2013

Search engines like Google and Bing track your search history, Facebook etc. According to things that you look for, and comments that you make, they bring up search results geared to YOU.

You can have different people look for the same item or person, and different results can/will show up based on that person's history.

But I found out about this site, duckduckgodot com which doesn't track. I'm going to try it out for a while and see how I like it.

I've also found that google searching has become less helpful as the days go by. I HATE bing so I can't even use that. We found dogpile to be OK too but I don't know if it tracks you or not?

Try Swagbucks, it's a search engine that pays you to use it. I know people who have gotten significant checks, for instance my daughter who uses it often and last month got a check for 200.00.

Before using Swagbucks, be aware of what they do and how they operate. Generally the checks you get are for Swagbucks, which are not worth much in real money.

I've used Dogpile.com for years and love it. It searches several other search engines like Google so you get better results. IMO.

Don't have much useful to offer ...

... but I'm supposed to track my (friend's) dog (sorry - wrong gender: that's to be "female canine, or FC) ...

... and pick up after her (depending on the character of the outflow). Liquid just disappears ... into thin soil (not thin air).

Funny thing, though ... I think that she must be one of the early gender equality advocates, canine variety ...

... as about half of the time, when she "goes" in one variety ...

... she cocks her leg!

Male wanna-be, maybe?

O.J. - what does a dog have to do with this topic? You lost me when you started talking about taking care of someone's dog - try to stay on topic!

In the early days of internet search engines, Alta Vista was one of my favorites for ferretting out technical subjects. Time passed and the original was sold and passed around, but it still exists. It is now one of Yahoo's search engines. Its development apparently stopped years ago, but its search results still relate well.

The URL is: http://www.altavista.com

I would guess the dog reference was connected to the post immediately previous which referenced dogpile.

There's really lots of great search engines, many are specialized, but it's fun to try out a few different ones. Ixquick is similar to duck duck go. The wiki doesn't even have all of them listed but covers a lot.

My gosh, I had forgotten all about Dogpile and Alta Vista. Used to use them years ago. Thanks to you all, I have now found them again and put them in a favorites folder.

(Dog...pile did it, I fear) - wrist dutifully slapped.

Being something of a radio addict ... I tend to draw my own pictures.

I remember my first experience with using an internet search. Our company had installed a new central computer for the engineers. (At that time, we all had terminals on our desk that were cabled into a central computer.) The IT manager enabled our accounts to internet searches and encouraged us to try it out.

One day at noon, I tried my first iinternet search, I wanted to find information about the Ford Escort and thought I'd see what i could dig up. My first attempt used the search words Ford and Escort. Wow! I immediately got a ton of hits, mostly from Madams and 'escort' services out of California. LOL. That was a learning experience. I quickly changed the search parameters; our accounts were being secretly monitored for abuse.

Thanks for the tip. I've tried it and it's good so far. I like how it defines for us with what we're looking for.

Been using DuckDuckGo as my default search engine and recommending it for quite a while. And WTH, I like the duck! Occasionally I also use and recommend IxQuick and StartPage. They're probably about the most private search engines out there. And yes, some don't care. I do. And no, nothing is 100% private, nor secure on the internet.

I used to use Mamma (the Mother of all search engines) and Dogpile to avoid the "G" spot whenever I could. I got tired of hearing Oh yeah, the proper term now I was offended by people saying they "googled" something so I didn't want to feed the beast. Seemed as appropriate to me as "I Charmined", "I Red Lobstered" or "I Toyotaed" something. People have to have a nonsensical phrase for everything. Isn't it "delish"?

And Joyful, don't forget the Kitchen Table Kommandment Thou shalt not make a joke or someone shalt be offended! ;)

Anyway, you should really have more than one search engine when you're searching. Some pick up things others don't. There is no one "best".
