New Pool Install- What Pump?

bran4August 31, 2014

We are having a 18x36 free form kidney pool installed with a rough in for a water feature (won't be installed for another few years). We are wondering what type of pump to install, a flopro vs or 2 single hp pumps.
The builder is suggesting two single hp pumps but I am inclined to think that a single vs pump would suffice.
Any suggestions or reccomendations would be appreciated.

I just had a pool built and have two single speed pumps. I have four fire/water bowls and to have the bowls running I would have to run the VS pump on high anyways. My pool builder was not a big fan of the VS pumps though they seem to be very popular around this area of Texas. I went with his suggestion mostly because of my previous experience with pool pumps. I just didn't see them ever paying for themselves before needing replaced.

I would go with a VS pump because you should be able to lower the speed when not running the feature and really dial it in for flow when you want too. Intelliflow from Pentair.
