Indoor rug/mat for wood floors - exit from pool

tammywAugust 27, 2014

We just had a new pool built. We have one sliding glass door that everyone will be coming in and out. We will make sure everyone dries off quite well before coming in the house, and so far have just been putting a thick towel down to protect our wood floors. Of course the towel does get a little wet, so people are bringing some amount of water with them.

What might be the best rug to have inside, on top of hardwood floors, so that the water doesn't sit on the wood floors. Also it would have to be a rug where the water doesn't soak down into the wood floors. What is the best thing for this situation? I'm nervous that even if we have a rug, a small water ring will form AROUND the rug and damage the floors.

What does everyone else do in this situation?

How about a rubber-backed area rug? I've found them up to 3'x5'.

This is a recipe for ruining your floors. Everyone needs to dry off--especially swim clothes, not just their feet--and put on dry flip flops before walking in the house. A rubber backed rug will help, but don't be lulled into thinking that will keep everything dry--change it out frequently.
