Privacy fence idea for a second level townhouse deck

psychofanNovember 5, 2012

We've recently purchased a new construction townhouse and, of course, with a second 10' x 20' level deck that is adjacent (practically touching with about 6 inches of separation) to the neighbors. To create some semblance of privacy, we're contemplating installing a couple of White Vinyl Outdoor Privacy Screen (specifically these Shop Barrette 61-in x 37-1/4-in White Vinyl Outdoor Privacy Screen see http://www.lowes.com/pd_160333-73428-73003969_4294711135) on the sides of our decks (Trex composite).

As you can see from the installation instruction under the 'View Demo' link, these screens are normally installed directly into the ground (with a 18" to 24" pole). My initial thought is to attach the poles to the deck along the outside length. Question is, would this be feasible, in terms of safety and sturdiness? What kinds of U-shaped bracket to use?

Can't really speak to the product you envision. if it were me, I would try to find some vegetation in the vine form that would propagate and be hardy. I believe ambiance truly suffers when a "structure" is installed. imo
