Machine quilting

mjjones453February 3, 2012

I am wondering if you can give me suggestions on any books on How to machine quilt! I have always quilted by hand, but need to make the switch to machine quilting. I have an old Bernina that I am hoping to be able to use. Any suggestions on tools, that I might need would be helpful! Mary

You can't beat any of Harriet Hargrave's book. She was a pioneer in that field and gives very good illustrations on how it's done. There are lots of other good ones but those are the ones I own.

You tube has lots of demonstrations as well. Lots of demos out on the internet. Sharon Schamber is particularly good.

Here is a link that might be useful: Sharon Schamber tutorial

Oh, I agree with Harriet Hargrave and watching lots of videos. Also, don't be afraid to just jump in and do it. There is a learning curve, mistakes will be made, but nothing that can't be fixed.

I also have Harriet Hargrave's book, Heirloom Machine Quilting. It was really encouraging to me and made machine quilting to seem 'doable'. I also was spurred on by Diane Gaudynski's, Guide to Machine Quilting.

Harriet Hargarve is great, I just wish I were a better student. There is definitely a learning curve and practice helps. Patiences and good gloves help. I have also learned don't be afraid to mark your pattern for FM. I didn't think that was right but have changed my mind. Good lucky and listens to the other with more experience.
