OT - I've pondered posting.....

geezerfolks_SharonG_FLFebruary 5, 2013

A few of you have been following my journey with cataract surgery that was done the week before Christmas, so thought I'd bring everyone up to date. DD, Holly, went with Clay and me to the retina specialist yesterday, and this is the outcome she sent to family members.

Hey, everybody - went with Mom to her retinal specialist appt this morning - the cataract surgery is perfectly placed, however, the crinkly membrane that is causing the vision issues on her retina (vision was 20/200 this morning) is also causing a lot of swelling. She definately needs to have another surgery to remove the membrane, however the swelling is so severe, the dr does not want to consider surgery until the swelling is more under control. She had a painful steroid shot in the eye area this morning, and continues the two eyedrops every 3 hours. Next appt is March 6. This is turning out to be a long process ---

I have been doing some sewing...especially easy patterns, but I am sure anxious to get back in gear and move on.

Thank you for the update. I can't imagine a steroid shot in the eye, Ouch!!!!!! I hope the drops and shots will reduce the swelling soon. Keeping my eye site in my one good eye so I can sew is my fear as I age. Keeping you in my prayers.

Oh my goodness! I sure hope this can get resolved soon!

I think I'd rather lose my hearing than my eyesight! Actually....now that I think about it, I think losing my hearing right about now might be kind of nice! lol

I do hope your eye heals quickly!

Best wishes from here as well. Yesterday at my eye exam, the Dr. has scheduled me with a specialist for cataract evaluation. Are they ready or not? The joys of aging!!

Oh my....a needle in the eye! I had a fluid injected into a tear duct once in an attempt to clear it. It was excruciating so I am sure it must have been a horrible experience for you having a needle in your eye! You are having much too long a go at this. I don't blame you for being impatient. Hopefully, that swelling will clear up and you will soon be able to get on with your next surgery. Will certainly keep you in my prayers!

I really, really, really appreciate everyone's prayers and good thoughts. Just to clarify, the shot was very close to the eye but not directly in it. I cannot imagine what it would have been like if they didn't put numbing drops in first. Was nice to hear him verify the cataract surgery was perfectly done, though.

Theresa, When you see the eye doc and you have to make any decisions that you're on the fence about, my daughter would question the doc with, "If this were your mother, what would you do?" so that might be helpful for you, too.

Did get the top of the table cleared/cleaned off ready for a marathon when I'm able to. @:)

Sharon, thanks for posting. I knew you were having eye problems, but did not know to what extent! I'm hoping and praying you will be much improved and things will get better. We both were having eye situations at the same time...its been a few years of dr. visits and struggles to see so I know what you are going through...and the drops!
Just an aside, I have no idea what workmanship that the few quilts I made turned out to be in that time...lol!

My sister in law had a lot of trouble when she had her cataracts removed, but eventually all was well. Sometimes it really does take patience tho. Hang in there, and here's to a speedy(er) recovery.

Sharon,
I'm glad you posted! I had wondered about the surgery and didn't want to bring it up until you were ready.

I had a concussion in high school and it caused double vision. I had surgery in my 20's and my vision gets bad
when I am tired, and I'm as blind as a bat in the dark!! Close up work like sewing and being on the computer are a huge strain for me.

I'm seriously thinking about getting prisms AGAIN when I get my new glasses. They give me a headache and I don't look forward to them at all.

Hope you can get back to sewing soon!!

Sorry for your rough time and can understand the frustration of having complications when the surgery was a success. Being limited in the sewing room if not fun. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for keeping us updated.

One thing that I've never encountered in my whole life until now is that shopping is not enjoyable! I even turned down an invitation to be taken to a new fabric shop! Now you know how horrible this really is!!! I couldn't believe it.

OK....I'm off the computer for awhile....thank you for remembering me throughout your day.

Please keep praying......I may not need the extra surgery! Update - from appt on Tues, 2/5:
------------------------------------
Hello, family! Mom's appt this morning with the retinal specialist was successful! The swelling has gone down, and her vision has improved - so much so, that he is giving her another month and a half on these meds (less dosage) to see if we can get her to where she will be cleared for driving, which would mean her vision would have improved greatly and her quality of life will be much better! Even talking about no surgery needed!
-------------------------------
Teresa, Feeling those seams 'nest' helps a whole lot! And, if the bottom fabric is a different color than the top fabric, it helps to know that the edges are together and even. :-)

Gwen, Can you see ok now?

And my eye specialist visit was Wed. He suggests waiting 6 months for another look-see. And then we can decide. Meantime I think I will need new glasses. Things are just not crisp.
Glad you are in a better space.

Sharon, so glad to hear of the improvement! Just be patient a little longer, even if has been hard thus far.
Thx for asking about my sight. I had to go back for a little laser application and that improved everyting greatly, but it was a hard year before the laser could be done. I am ok now, but computers really tire me. Thank goodness I can still do some sewing.
We will hang in ther together!
