Am I degrading the lifespan of redwood by leaving black stain?

Will it hurt the lifespan of my redwood deck by leaving black stain on before I oil?

Black? Whew.
Probably not. redwood is pretty bullet proof as deck materials go. Is it in full sun? How old is it? Is the current finish/stain in decent shape?
