Corner Sink questions

mygarMarch 7, 2008

We are planning on having a corner sink. I currently have a single bowl sink and love it but I have been looking at the sinks at Galaxy Tool Supply that has been recommended here. After looking at these, I am thinking about getting a double bowl sink.

My problem is that I'm just not sure how big a sink I can put in the sink base. We are using Kraftmaid cabinets and my books only have some of the dimensions of the base. Are there any good rules of thumb to use for corner sinks.

I would also love to see pictures of corner sinks if anybody could share.

What size corner base are you planning on? I believe corner sink bases are usually either 36" or 42" (along the wall edges, 24" on the other two that are adjacent to nearby cabinets and you can do the math to figure out the length of the angled piece). We have a 36" sink base and the largest sink we could squeeze in it was the Galaxy S405 single bowl. I didn't see any double bowls that would fit but I will admit I didn't look very hard as I really wanted a single bowl D sink.

We are extremely happy with this setup and the sink itself. This sink is deceptively HUGE.

Here it is:

Our 15-3/4" square prep sink (17-1/2" square overall size) is going in a 36" diagonal SB. I don't know if that's what was required for it, but I wanted the 17" diagonal space that a 36" SB gives you to stand in front of.

Vizslalover's has a 23-5/8" overall width. If it fits in a 36", then a 42" would definitely fit something bigger...whether it would fit a sink 6" wider (~29.5"), I don't know. If so, you might be able to fit the S315 Ticor sink. It has a 28-3/4" overall width. Overall: 28-3/4" x 20" x 9"
Large Bowl: 15-5/8" x 18-1/2" x 9"
Small Bowl: 10-3/8" x 15-7/8" x 7"

Can you call your KD or even KraftMaid?

mygar-you should really check into that. we have merillat cabinets, they also make kraftmaid. I have a 36" angled sink base, we were not able to put a double sink in that cabinet it says so right in the spec book. It what be too hard for me to explain the shape of my base so here is a pic of my layout. Do you see the line right behind the sink? that is the back end of the cabinet, its straight across instead of a corner. If yours is the same you probably wont be able to use a dbl. sink. My KD used that base because they are stronger. I have a ticor S505,
O.D: 23-1/4" x 17-7/8" x 9-1/2"
Bowl size: 21" x 15-3/4"
9 1/2 " deep

Thanks. We have a 36" base. It looks like we will have to go with the 405 or 505.

We are working with HD and I am gathering my questions for our next visit. This one will be on our list - I was just hoping to get some things answered on my own.

dd70,
I didn't see your post until I posted mine but I think I have the same thing that you do. I told the designer at HD that I wanted a single bowl sink and this is the base she said we should use so I think you're right about it having to be a single bowl. I currently use a dish drainer that hangs on the edge of the bowl. I really like it but my current sink is 27" wide so I am really losing space if I want to still use that dish drainer.

I have a standard 24" inch base cab plopped into the corner (so we lost the bit of pointy space at the back and sides that one would get with a corner sink cab.) and a standard double sink. IIRC we had to shave down the sides of the cab a bit to get the sink to nestle in.

Four years and counting, no problems -- love the way the regular base cab gave us double-door access to what's beneath.

Good luck with decision-making!
