Wire Panels for Porch Railing

Sara549August 18, 2011

Where can I find info on what type of wire to use in panels for a porch "rail." I want to make a 2x4 rectangular frame with wire panels that I can use as porch railing instead of spokes that are required by our building code to be four inches apart.

What kind of finish do you use? It looks good on that Ipe. I'm sure that pic was taken when the project was still pertty new. What is the life expectancy for that stuff? You're located in ca, right?

thanks for your time, Aidan

Aiden, I'm down the road from you, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz.

I'm not sure what we used on that particular deck, but we generally use Penofin for Hardwoods. Life expectancy is about 6 months. They say that if you keep on it, the life will gradually extend. I've not seen that yet. Probably because no one wants to re treat their decks every 6 mos.

Mark, It's exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you so much! I had found one photo in a magazine, and I can't find the magazine, now.
