Adding on to retaining wall?

margolaneAugust 3, 2014

We recently built a new "old house" on acreage. We have a walk out basement and a couple of 5 ft retaining walls, however, the builder did not extend the wall out far enough to make a decent sized level spot above for a patio. We literally step off our back porch, take a few steps and it becomes a pretty steep incline. My question is: Is it possible to add on to the retaining wall blocks ourselves with smaller blocks in order to fill it with dirt and have a larger level top to pour a patio on? Or do I just have to get a guy out here to add more big retaining wall blocks? A smaller retaining wall will have to be done on two more sides as well to hold the dirt.

I think it would help you get a better answer if you could provide a pic of the area. I'm confused about what you are wanting to do. Pic will solve that problem!
