deck posts

martina_21July 7, 2012

I have a second story deck that i rebuilt approx 3 years ago.i replaced the 4x4 PT support posts and tied onto the rest of the deck. the posts set on top of a concrete pier and fastened with a metal cleat. they rise up through the deck, attach to the band and continue up to attach to my railing. it has been extremely dry here and the 4x4's are starting to twist and bow. they are sealed with deck stain. any ideas?

not going to stop it as that is the nature of Southern Yellow Pine. What would concern me more are 4x4's holding up a 2nd floor deck.

6x6 PT or steel would be more acceptable in my book but you may want to consult an engineer to make certain the structure and support will be acceptable.
