Stone pavers on top of PT wood decking

james_007July 20, 2012

We are planning to build a small, 5'x16.5', deck. It is about 2' high from the patio.

We are building our patio now by using travertine pavers which are about 1.25" thick. We like them.

We are thinking to use them on our small deck as well. We also hope it will reduce the deck maintenance.

I have done some research online and try to find a good way to do it. I found those products designed to be used with pavers on the decks are too expensive. I am thinking it may be better to just build a regular PT wood deck and then dry lay the travertine pavers on top of it.

Do you think it is a good idea?

Do you think the travertine pavers will prevent the PT wood from sun, most of the rain and snow to make it last much longer?

Do you think the PT decking will stay even for 20yrs or 30yrs?

Not an expert but sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I believe the way your describing this the wood will rot quicker.

Yeah either buy the products that are designed engineered for this use or build something different.
