How to get rid of mothball smell?

marylizNovember 28, 2006

I just received a used book in the mail. It was supposed to be a birthday gift for my hubby, in January. It smells of mothballs! It makes my eyes water! I have contacted the seller, but I hate to have to send it back at my expense, then purchase another copy, and hope it arrives on a day when Hubby is not likely to find it in the mailbox before I do.

Is there any way to get rid of the smell?

Sorry, Maryliz
I don't have any answers for you but maybe you could post on one of the other Gardenweb forums. I think there is an antique forum. Someone there may be able to help you.
Phew-it took long enough for you to receive it!
Good luck,

You can put some things in a box with crumbled newspaper or kitty litter and just leave it there for a while.

Problem solved. The merchant contacted me and I have returned the book. I'll find another copy. This is the first time I have had a problem, after buying maybe 20 used books on Amazon. My husband's birthday is in January. There's still time.
