flashing question

thinkstoomuchMay 21, 2009

Framing for my Ipe deck will begin this weekend. I know how important it is to attach the ledger board correctly. I understand how the flashing should be installed, but I'm confused when it comes to screwing down the Ipe decking board that is closest to the house. "They" say never to pierce the flashing with a screw/nail whatnot. So, when you install that decking board closest to the house, does the old 1/2" to 3/4" rule for screw placement not apply? If it doesn't, won't the board cup?

Thanks all!

Kim, it is standard to go thru the flashing when installing the decking next to the house. The area protected by the flashing is not involved with this pentration.

The replacement plan is to run the flashin on top of the decking. Most Folks dont like that look but it works just as well. J.
