How to add a roof to existing deck?

chad_mMay 6, 2010

I am planning to build a 12x40 deck on the back of my house. I would like to plan ahead for a future roof over part of it. My question is how do you support the roof from an existing deck? I know if I was building the roof at the same time I would just use corner posts that were long enough to support the roof. It may be a few years before the roof comes along so I really don't want to look at the posts sticking up all the time with no roof on them. Thanks.

www.deckmastersllc.com In my show case there is a Spa building on top of a deck with wing walls, that is 2' 4' plywood/ redwood covered walls in the corners that hold the roof for side stress and add bearing.

These Kids, gotta watch them evey second!!! J.
