Kid-friendly deck railing that maximizes view?

GreenHighlighterApril 22, 2013

Hi all,

We have a fantastic view from our deck, and I'd like to figure out a deck railing that doesn't block the view (also a design requirement imposed by our planning department).

Around here, lots of people use the thin horizontal wire railing. However, we have young children who just view that as a ladder -- and this deck is 4 floors up (we're downslope).

Any recommendations for a kid-friendly deck railing that would still maximize our view?

Also, low maintenance would be good. My husband was thinking pexiglass but that just seems like it would be difficult to clean?

Everything needs maintenance unfortunately. Our railings are wrought iron. Yesterday they came down as a crew removed a lot of rotten and termite damaged boards. The entire deck will be replaced and the railing will be painted flat black to maximize views.

Good luck!

You can find a variety of materials, colors, and designs to complement your exterior style. You can choose materials like wrought iron, glass or wood. If you prefer a glass railing to preserve your view, just make certain it's constructed from safety glass.
