unglazed area on bottom of toilet

Our fairly new Caroma dual-flush toilet has an area on the bottom of the bowl (under water) that didn't get glazed. It's right in the center, at the bottom, about 2 inches or so in diameter. Naturally, it is already stained from normal toilet use. Is this normal? Is it a warranty-covered defect? The cleaning instructions warn not to use bleach, and brushing does not clean it, so not sure how to even get it to look good regularly!
