More bugs at ground level or 18'?

briser3April 5, 2012

We're going to have a patio put in.

Planning on 2 levels. Top level at 18" - level with back sliding door, and another part at ground level (which will realistically be at 4").

A neighbor mentioned we might experience more bugs at ground level.

We live in Central NJ, and do have our fair share of gnats in our yard.

Anybody have any experience with this?

What ever you do , do not put the upper level at the same height as the doors. Water and snow do funny things, at the very least have a 4" step down to the deck. I wouldn't worry about the bugs in the yard, your bigger concern is water getting into your house and bugs in your house.

There is not going to be any difference in your bug saturation if your patio is open to the elements. :) You can have bugs at 20+ feet!
