Pentair Pool Filter Drain plug

ljcareyMarch 21, 2013

I don't even have the bond coat on the pool yet after a remodel and I cant even get to the drain plug of the filter...

My previous filter was a Pentair Clean & Clear that was 16 years old, so I decided that it was a good filter and I purchased the same kind...

Only problem is that they changed the configuration of the drain plug from the side to the bottom. Who's brainy idea was that?

Before I could just use the blade of a big screw driver to unscrew the drain cover and now I can't even get my hands in there to grab it, use a socket or a wrench.

How do you remove the drain plug? Is the plumbing incorrect and should the drain be facing the edge of the concrete pad and not next to the pipes?

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks

They are a pain most of the time I have to use a stubby screwdriver in the slots of the cap to get it started....

Rusty, I wish that I had that one, but I have one of the new ones and there is no way to get in there to get a hand on it or a wrench... UGH!!!

Why did Pentair change it?...

Why I don't know but now I understand the one that you have. You can change it too a winter plug like the one below.....

I'll try that if its the right size, but it looks too big... It actually looks like the one I used to have.

I have the same problem. I use a strap wrench to open mine.

Yep that's it ...A pair of large channel locks will do it if you can get to it. turn right to tighten and left to loosen...the plug I gave a link to will replace it,,,
