Has anyone built a shelter for a grill?

hovegatorFebruary 13, 2010

We relandscaped a couple of years ago and our yard looks very nice, but we won't have the money to build a new hardscape with an outdoor kitchen for quite a few years.

I want to buy a nice new Weber gas grill this spring but refuse to have another nice grill get ruined by the sun and rain. My current grill is a nice, moderately priced grill that has been ruined by the elements and now hides on the side of the house b/c i am ashamed of it. :)Yes, i know i could cover it with a cloth/plastic grill cover but i want a real shelter. Like a pergola with a solid roof and walls or something like that.

My husband is quite the woodworker and can build just about anything, and i want something nicer than just a shanty built from posts and plywood! I am just at a loss for visions

if anyone has pics of what they use to protect their grill, please post.

I only built a screen for our grill - yes it it exposed to the elements when not covered. I do put up an umbrella for shade during daytime grilling. But, a roof over the grill would be fairly simple.

A good cover like weber makes, not the cheap vinyl ones that crack & fall apart will at least keep your grill from the elements. I'm not sure a roof over grill is a good idea given the smoke & heat.
