Pool repastering - what else do on pool?

ktd42February 29, 2012

We are thinking of replastering out 25 year old pool this year. I think the tile, coping and deck are original. The tile and coping are in okay shape for the age and concrete deck will probably need replacing in the next couple years (some cracking and sinking). We are budget constrained and are thinking of only doing the replastering but don't want to make a short term decision that will cost us more over the long run.

What are the pros and cons of not replacing tile and coping at this time (do these have a expected lifetime?)

If we replace the deck would this change the decision on tile and coping?

Thanks for all your help!

You can easily replaster now and retile later.
The only drawback is that you'll have to drain the pool when you go to perform the retiling of your waterline later.
It'll cost a little more for the applicator and the price of replacement water.
If you go to replace the decking you can demo the concrete gently and save your coping.

See ya,
