tub spout

treefrog10July 22, 2010

Hello All,

I am nearly finished creating a bathroom upstairs in our home. My issue is concerning the installation of the tub spout. I have tightened the spout (threaded) quite tight by hand and the spout is facing upward! I am worried that if I tighten it too much, I will break the solder seal in the threaded copper supply pipe. In addition, if I left the spout in the downward position (the correct position), it is loose enough to move sideways, just by brushing against it.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

I would just turn it that extra half turn (you did use teflon tape or dope, right)?. Alternatively, via the access panel, pull it into the wall a bit, bracing as necessary. Another option is to use a nipple that's 1/2" shorter and use a couple extra wraps of teflon tape on the threads.
