Water heater annode replacement

veesuboteeJuly 29, 2010

I was thinking about changing my annode. So since it's been a long time that I've been involved with one, I searched the internet.

It seems that all the information shows annodes that screw into the top of the WH. My WH does not have any 'spud' showing. It is a Bradford White (if that makes any difference).

Changed out a WH about 30 years ago and the annode was inserted into one of the water line openings. Apparently, this one does, also. One internet site said that some models have annode installed underneath the top cover. My unit has a cover with screws.

I'm guessing that the unit is 10 - 15 years old. My questions:

(a) can anyone verify if the annode is accessible from underneath the cover?

(b) if inserted into the waterline, are these still available?

(c) if (b) is correct, which waterline?

Thanks.

Guessing 10-15 years? I'd be looking at replacement of the entire unit. I would regard avoidance of anode replacement as a discount on replacement cost.
