How to reduce sound from hose bibb?

harry_wildJuly 1, 2012

hose bibb gets turn on; the sound from it can be heard though out the house. Is there a damper or a sound silencer that can be placed in the cold water line to reduce the noise?

Thanks.

Do you have an idea how old the hose bib is?

Sometimes older valves can vibrate in the stem as the water goes past the washer. The sound telegraphs through the plumbing.

Tightening the packing nut on those older faucets would usually solve the problem.

A loose screw holding the faucet washer can cause such noise.

How are you going to remember to turn off the water when watering the lawn?
