Convection Roast Whole Chicken in Breville Oven?

jaxoDecember 25, 2010

I'm going to roast a chicken that weighs about 4.5 lbs.

Breville's manual says the convection setting is default for roasting and to roast a whole chicken for 30 minutes per pound.

See the link to the manual below.

This sounds really excessive especially at the convection setting where I have seen as low as 15 minutes per pound bandied about.

Has anyone used one of the Breville 800XL smart ovens to roast a whole chicken?

I have it in the oven at 350 convection right now and I guess I'll start checking on it after an hour.

I have a Waring Pro Convection Oven that can't be much different that your Breville.

I use it exactly the way I would any oven. Including setting the temperature to 500ðF and roasting a chicken at that temperature. Shouldn't take more than an hour for a little 4.5 pound chicken.

30 minutes a pound, even at a lower temperature seems way to long. Make sure you use an instant read thermometer to check. You don't want to over cook.
