Sebastian's IBS

jonerebSeptember 19, 2012

Some of you will remember my posts regarding my male Siamese cat, Sebastian. He had giardia, possibly IBS among other things. We treated his IBS with Royal Canin Rabbit but he did not improve. I switched him to Nature's Varitey Instinct Rabbit Formula. Within a week or two Nature's Varitey had a shortage of rabbit. The product could not be found - anywhere in the USA. We switched to Instinct Lamb. I wanted to give Instinct a try because it's grain and gluten free...and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. By the way, we're using the canned food. Every other day, I add a little pumpkin to his diet. He likes it. It a treat he otherwise would not get to have. Good news. We've been using Instinct Lamb for about 6 weeks or more. Sebastian's bowel movements are still wet, but he is at least able to control his movements. He no longer has bad gas and no longer goes outside the litter box. Knock on wood. I have been dealing with this issue for over a year. I am hopeful that we've rounded the corner and that his health will continue to improve. While I doubt his BM's will ever be normal, Sebastian's health is the best it has ever been. He is playful and energetic.

It's great to read Sebastian is finally starting to feel better. Nature's Variety was the food that helped my cat, too. They used to make a dry Lamb and Oatmeal and for whatever it did/didn't have my cat got better (same issues you had). The other flavors didn't work. They've since discontinued it but a couple of years had gone by and she can tolerate the Buffalo Blue brand now. I also gave her the canned Lamb. There's 2 kinds of canned Lamb and one worked better than the other. I really suspect my cat may have had TriTrich even though I treated her for it. I read a million message boards that said the symptoms go away after a couple of years. I know it's been a long battle for you and poor Sebastian. I felt so sorry for my cat having diarrhea like that. You must be very relieved!
