Old gas valve question
I have an unused fireplace that has a log lighter installed in it. It has its own shutoff valve you turn with a key and there is an old style safety valve in the crawl space (brass with nut and grease) Since the fireplace is unused Im thinking its best that I turn off the gas from the valve in the crawlspace.
However, I am hesitant to do so since the valve is old and my experience with old valves is that once you toggle them leaks happen. I am not familar with particular old valve but are they proned to leak when shutoff? They are quarter turn... can they be turned both ways (I dont want to force it with a wrench if it doesnt turn easy).
