Aunt Penny's White Sauce?

blueiris24December 14, 2008

Does anyone know of a store that carries it, or what I could substitute for it? I need it by tomorrow so can't special order. It says it comes in a can. TIA

Looks like a plain white sauce (bechamel) to me.
You can google a million recipes but basically its

Equal parts butter to flour. Melt the butter in a saute pan over medium heat, add flour and stir to combine. Let cook a minute or two to cook off the floury taste.

Add warm milk stirring while it thickens, add more milk until you get the consistency you want. It will thicken as it cooks. Add salt, pepper and a bit of nutmeg if you like.....voila White sauce.

Here is the Epicurious recipe with specific in amounts and instruction.
