Replace shower trim

jimbo22sMarch 16, 2010

I would like to change the 10 year old one-handle Moen trim in the shower to update the look. Is the handle a universal fitting? Can I get any one-handle trim that I like, or do I need to make sure the new trim is compatible?

Not exactly. First, you need to describe the model's operation ("pull" to turn it on, or "turn" to turn it on, etc.)

Also, the Moen units and trim kits bought from a big box store are a little bit different from the ones available at a plumbing supply. The plate screw holes can be in different places for what looks like the same stuff, and sometimes the shower diverter hole is moved just a bit, too.

You'll get a better idea by calling Moen directly - they'll walk you through it for what you have.
