Pressure tank question

kendooMarch 3, 2012

My water pressure has been fluctuating more than usual lately. I turned on the water in the tub and watched the pressure guage to see where the cutoffs were. Well pump kicked on at 25psi or so, and went all the way up to 100psi before it kicked off. I don't recall it ever going that high, I think it was set for more like 60psi as a high cutoff (if I remember correctly). The pressure feels ok when the pump first shuts off, but quickly drops off to lower than I recall (going by the feel in the shower). Any suggestions?

I suspect that the tube/pipe bringing the pressure signal to the switch is almost clogged. But this behavior is not the typical for that condition. Usually the problem is when the pressure drops and the switch does not get the signal due to the clogging. But that or the switch itself is almost certainly the problem.
