Chair rail help- scuffed walls

kelliaMarch 15, 2013

I painted our kitchen walls a darker brown shortly before Christmas and already there is a line near the kitchen table from being scuffed by our oak chairs. We have white trim around the doors and cabinets are white. Any suggestions on what I can use as a chair rail that wouldn't show scuff marks? I'm afraid if I go white to match the trim I'll just get black marks. But the dark paint is showing marks, too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What color are your cabinets? If they are stained would a rail matching the stain work? Might also just want to be more careful with the chairs or get an upholstered chair.

What about white painted beadboard to match your trim color. That would be striking with your dark brown walls.

Last fall I up in a 4 inch wide peice of oat stained the same color as my cabs for the same problem. Its worked well so far. Even though my cabs are maple I went with oak because its a very hard wood that can really take a beating.
