Has anyone here used their oriental rug with the backside up?

sis2twoMarch 4, 2012

I realize that this may sound ridiculous, but I have an oriental rug for my bedroom that I like better on the underside. The reason being that the colors are more muted and it looks kind of like a needlepoint rug. In all honesty, would it look crazy to use it that way? And has anybody here ever done that ? Thanks.

Absolutely. It's a great trick. I also have used the wrong side of fabrics because I liked the colors better.

And would you still use a rug pad?

Happy to help. Just don't use one of those rug pads that's sticky.

Are you sure it's not a flat weave? Those are reversible.

No, it is an oriental rug that we have had for a couple of years.

You risk stressing and breaking the backing material if this is not a flat weave.

Live wire oak said, "You risk stressing and breaking the backing material if this is not a flat weave."

I've been doing this with one of my oriental rugs for years with no problem. I use the reverse in summer with light slip covers on the furniture and the regular side during the winter.
