Zebra Longwing

kentuck_8bNovember 3, 2007

Zebra Longwing, Heliconius charithonia, (also known as the Zebra Heliconian) was declared the official butterfly of Florida in 1996.

Took the picture here in Texas out in the country. There were five of them today, only a couple the last few times I was there.

These are the first ones I have seen in probably 30+ years, I guess they have been vacationing over in Florida.

Very nice photo. Thanks for showing us a butterfly most of us never get to see in life.
