Scanning Slides/Negatives

zzeasyJuly 21, 2011

I have an OVT/Vupoint slide/negative scanner and just started scanning some slides from the late 60's and 70's. Some of them seem "washed out" after being transferred, even though the colors seem normal when looked at through a viewer. Had some negatives when I first got the scanner and they scanned fine. Any suggestions? I've tried Picasa and Photoimpression, but they can't recolor the washed-out parts. Thanks!

can you adjust the settings on the scanner software?

Tried changing settings and TIF seems slightly better than JPG for saved file. Basically it seems that as it acquires the picture, it self-adjusts the brightness and that results in sort of a partial over-exposure that washes out some colors. Doing some research, this scanner is only 10 bit color instead of the 48 that seems to be necessary. I guess its better than nothing ....
