Ignore the plants in the background, it's the one in the center that needs a name. Shouldn't be very hard.
A type of palm??
No, not a palm.
The plant in the photo is only about 10 inches tall at present. They can grow to over four feet tall.
Some kind of bamboo?
Not a tree fern and not a bamboo.
Something along the lines of an elephant ear? Looks like it would have big leaves...
Not an elephant ear nor tobacco.
This plant has just one giant divided leaf on top.
(I haven't a clue, just shooting in the dark)
No, no, and no.
It blooms a flower as tall as the plant itself, but only blooms rarely and when old enough. The flower is purple on this variety.
One divided leaf on top, blooms rarely, when old enuf, purple flower on this particular variety....hmmm...just trying to narrow down facts...thanks!
How about something off the wall.
(Amorphophallus titanum). Corpse flower
Eric, yes it is an Amorphophallus aka VOODOO LILY, but not var. titanum(the largest flower in the world, and stinkiest).
This one is "A. konjac" a bit smaller and grows a bit different. I was going to post another photo to help with ID.
A. konjac flower found on internet:
Leaf from PDN:
Good job Eric!!
Wow...right off the wall....He's good-He's good!
Wish I could see your photos of the konjac flower and leaf, but I have that dread "Red X" disease.
