Mama Duck in a Tree...

joanmnMay 11, 2007

Neighbor called and told me about this mallard duck in a tree. Never saw one nesting in a tree before, about 4 feet off the ground.

She made her nest out of feathers.

I walked around the tree to get a good view of her. She was very brave and stood her ground.

I heard she has 11 eggs, but I didn't want to scare her off. I'll have to keep checking on her and see if I can snap the ducklings when they hatch.

Canon Digital Rebe, XTi, Canon 70-200mm 4.0L IS USM lens.

Great photos! I never have seen nor heard of one building a nest so high from the ground. That first step for the little ones will be a doozie! Nice captures.

Great shots. My daughters neighbor had a duck blind on the lake one year and a goose built it's nest on top of it.
