Mixing Polished and Honed Kitchen Counters

suzsuzFebruary 15, 2013

We are in the process of selecting our kitchen counters - we are hoping to put white perimeter cabinets and a soft black (painted or stained) island - the island is 5x8.

Contenders right now are:
Perimeter: Honed Virginia Mist (it is a dark lot)
Island: Polished Luce di Luna (vein cut)

Would it be ok to mix the finishes? Or should we hone the Luce di Luna?

Don't hone the Luce di Luna.

My sil did almost this exact configuration in her new home. It is beautiful! They have white cabs with black leathered (I think that's what she called it) granite on perimeters and polished White Macaubus (aka Luce di Luna as far as I know) on the gray (not black) island.

You will love the look.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's so hard to imagine what will really look like.

Suzsuz,

I have white perimeters with honed black Labrador granite and black island cabinets with polished statuary marble and it looks great. I find posting pictures to this site very difficult. If you email me through the site, I'm happy to email you pictures.

I don't know if this will be useful. I have cherry perimeter cabs with leathered Black Pearl, espresso (dark) stained walnut island with polished Dry Leaf.
I LOVE the granites with different finish. The leathered BP eliminates much of the glare from the south facing windows; the polished DL adds shine to the darker center of the room.
So this is another vote for mixing finishes on different granites.
