best way to paint exterior azek?

jeuckNovember 4, 2007

We are in Wisconsin and have two days, temperature wise to paint the exterior (azek) of a building. The paint is going on like grease. We have tried different brushes, three different types of paint and bringing some of it inside over night to paint. Still like putting vaseline on it.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried a quality low temp paint like Duration?

We had Azek trim on our house - it's like painting plastic. IIRC, the painters scuff sanded it, then primed with Zinser 1-2-3. They then did a coat (or two, can't remember) of Duration semigloss. They said that the guys at the paint store told them that the paint wouldn't stick well unless they scuff sanded and primed with a bonding primer like 1-2-3. It's been on for 2 years now and still looks like it was just painted yesterday.

Good luck!

I have primed with 1 2 3, Fresh Start, CoverStain and some others, topcoated with Duration or BM and all still look great after many years of service.
