some new and some old wall -- how to prime?

saydeNovember 17, 2010

We took out an old door frame and made an eyebrow opening -- which is new textured paint. We now have a combination of the new textured paint, with the old painted textured walls -- the new areas are feathered to make the whole thing seamless -- we hope. There are a few areas where we added some textured paint on to the old walls to try to get a consistent texture throughout.

Should we prime just the new areas or prime everything before painting?

Prime everything ... when the primer is on you can better tell if the texturing is seamless or if it needs a bit of work. If you fix the texturing, prime just those spots.

Then, when it looks good with the primer, apply the color.
