can I paint over stain splotches on baseboard?

kjmamaOctober 31, 2010

We are in the process of getting our floors finished. There is wood stain splotches all over our painted baseboards. Can I just paint over this? The stain is oil and our paint is water based? Is there a way to get it off?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Talk to the floor refinisher ... he should not be leaving stain splotches "all over the baseboards"

A coat of primer, followed by repainting in the original color is all it needs, but unles you are also the refinisher, it's his mess.

You could try to use some paint thinner to clean off the stain flecks. Since your trim is water based, the paint thinner should not affect it, but it will likely take some elbow grease. It may be faster to just repaint.
