Ellen Kennon paint -1 or 2 coats, if prime (Zinser) first?

kitchen4usOctober 7, 2010

What do you suggest? We plan to apply a good primer coat (Zinser paint) then apply Ellen Kennon's Buttercream color (light yellow) in one of the bedrooms. Just wondering if you think we will need 1 or 2 coats of the EK paint, in addition to the primer (Zinser) coat.

Also, when using the blue painter's tape, do you need to remove it between coats or can you remove this when you finish painting the room?

Do 2 EVEN/FULL coats!

Unless you're the world's best painter, the 2nd coat cancels out the inevitable variations of the 1st coat.
Most people push paint too thin anyway...

I purposely wait 'till the NEXT DAY to remove tape if at all possible. Make D#MN sure you have a sharp razor-knife, and make an even score thru the paint at the tape edge.

Bottom-line...with todays fast-drying (but NOT curing) paints, ALWAYS score the edge b4 pulling tape. This prevents "paint-pulling" too!

Depending on scenario..I try to cut in as much as possible without tape.
The only scenario where I use tape is if I'm cutting into decorative wood, alot of angels around crown, etc where I don't want to mess up the wood....

I have EK Buttercream in two rooms of my house. Two coats is a must to get the full spectrum effect of the paint.
