Previous Pottery Barn Post

CEFreemanOctober 19, 2011

Hi all!

Last year, Pottery Barn came out with their catalogue that was themed with incredible furniture. Or at least the finish was incredible. A grey, distressed look.

It was discussed here online, but I evidently can't remember which board, because a search doesn't yield the post.

I was wondering if anyone ever came close to replicating the finishes?

Thanks,

Christine

Hey CE,

Was it the 'reclaimed wood' look, kind of like driftwood. The link below might be the thread you want.

I am trying something similar at the moment, and you can follow along in my 'does this look like driftwood?' thread over on Decorating.

Here is a link that might be useful: is this the thread?

Link to my thread is below.

In my Net research I'm seeing that texture is a key part. One can dig out the softer wood with a wire wheel on a drill to get the 'furrows' in older driftwood. There are treatments to mimic the rusting and iron stains in reclaimed wood.

Today I discovered that striating or combing the washes also helps a lot.
