What is back brushing, when and how to do it properly? Thanks

Depending on the context, it means either brushing after the roller to give a brushed finish (always desirable on woodwork)
Or: taking long strokes with the brush to get an even finish, instead of random/choppy stop/start brush marks. Which is also called "tipping off" because you are just using the tips of the bristles.
