Advice on painting windows?

wi-sailorgirlOctober 21, 2010

I'm going to tackle our new Anderson casement windows in our remodel this weekend and I'm wondering if there are any tips I should keep in mind when painting them. I'd rather not screw it up.

I've only found tips for staining windows here.

I should add that I'm only painting the interior. The exterior is vinyl clad.

Do I have to paint the frame that faces out (where the window covers when it's closed) and if so ... anyone have good suggestions on how to do a decent job on that without falling out the window?

It is probably a bad idea to paint the reveals (the part that faces outside) because then the sash, when closed, may touch it and you don't want that. Ideally, you do not want one painted surface touching another painted surface ever. We always leave the reveals raw for this reason. You also don't want to paint any rubber or weatherstripping.
