paint over wallpaper

musicteacherOctober 3, 2011

Sixteen years ago I painted over impossible to remove wallpaper in four rooms of my house. It all still looks great except for one area of my dining room which is on the wall that encloses the dryer vent. I guess the heat and moisture ( I have since replaced the vent within the wall) loosened the glue and the paper has several large "waves" where it stands out from the wall. I still would like to keep my pretty paint. Would it work to just apply wall paper paste to those areas and "roll" them out? I am concerned that the wall paper, made thicker by three coats of paint, won't flatten out and stick as it should.

Will it work? Probably not, but it is already bad, so why not try?

First step is to use a push pin to perforate the loose wallpaper. That will allow the adhesive and air to escape and permit the adhesive to dry. Once the paper is rolled out, be sure to wipe away all evidence of paste.

I suggest border adhesive for best results.

They sell syringes just for this purpose also and as brush says the white runny border adhesive works well.
