Painting Trim/Door with peeling paint

KdrosasSeptember 1, 2012

Hi! This is my first post. I'm excited to find this forum through a series of clicks from Pinterest!

We recently moved into a 1970's ranch home in Florida. The doors are all flat, hollowcore, and have seen better days. The paint is peeling from the doors and the trim around them. We looked into replacing them but it is hard to find doors I would like and the hassle/expense is more than we can handle with other projects.

I am planning on placing molding and making 3 squares on the door and repainting them. My question is- how should I prep and paint them for the best look and chance of the paint job lasting?

All loose paint needs to be sanded off.
Clean well, apply QUALITY bonding primer, apply QUALITY acrylic top coats.
This means a trip to a real paint store and not the big box.
