dietary restrictions while pregnant?

sheilajoyce_gwNovember 20, 2005

Times have changed in the 25 years since I was last pregnant. Planning holiday meals around possible early pregnancy, so what do you have to limit or avoid these days?

What kind of fish to limit or avoid? What else? Someone told me bleu cheese????

You can get the book What to Expect When You're Expecting. The "Best Odds" diet in that book is a nice, healthy diet that is well-balanced and easy to follow.

You should avoid raw fish, raw eggs (like in eggnog or hollandaise) and you might want to google some articles about mercury and seafood. There are certain seafoods too high in mercury to be eaten when pregnant.

I've never heard of Bleu cheese. Fish high in mercury include: tuna, shark, swordfish. No raw sushi or seafood (i.e. oysters) and no raw eggs as mentioned above. I would think the mother-to-be would be open to other foods as long as they aren't making her nauseous.
