Painted Front Door (pix) with storm door?

teapot100July 5, 2011

One of the only things we could afford to do to the exterior of our newly-bought split-level ranch was paint. So we painted our door orange (Behr in BM's citrus blast) and the shutters blue (BM Aqua Marina - we need to get a darker shade, though) to freshen things up:

The problem is the storm door:

In that pic you can see that the screen is dark and what you don't see is how it looks when the storm door is shut which is not attractive at all and makes a bright door look like yuck.

DH says that removing the storm door would be a project and we wouldn't be able to leave the door open in order to allow fresh air to circulate. I hate the storm door because it's such a paint to open in addition to the regular door when you're carrying things/kids or greeting guests. I see it as just an eyesore.

Anyone have any suggestions on what we can do?

I hate storm doors for the same reasons you do. It is not hard to remove a storm door, but you might regret the decision in the middle of winter.

Some forms of mesh screen are less visible than others.
