Regal vs. Regal Select

davisgardJuly 26, 2011

I've been alternating between painting two rooms and I'm in just the finishing touches of both. When I pulled off the tape, I got a lot of bleed through on the Regal paint, but not on the Regal Select. I also noticed as I was painting that the Regal paint was a lot thinner than the Regal Select and spattered more (not for just one gallon, but over the course of a couple of gallons).

I bought both paints at the same time from my BM dealer (just a week or so ago). What is the difference between the Regal and Regal Select? Is the Select a newer formulation, or are the two types used for different bases?

Regal uses the old formulation & old colorants. Regal Select is new, low VOC formulation with Gennex colorants. The Regal splattered more because Regal Select has a higher solid to liquid ratio; try holding a gallon of Regal in one hand and a gallon of Regal Select in the other and you'll notice a weight difference.
